Washington volunteer fire department to receive life-saving rescue equipment S.H. Smith & Company and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company awarded a $14,162 grant to the Washington Volunteer Fire Department for the purchase of a combination cutter/spreader rescue tool. This equipment is used by emergency responders to safely and quickly rescue people trapped in motor vehicles as a result of an accident. "With the lack of funding resources for fire departments across the country and, in particular, volunteer departments, we are very proud to be able to give back to the community in such a meaningful way," stated Scott Smith, president. "This grant will help make the firefighters� jobs easier and, most importantly, save lives."
