Letter from the President
Dear Insurance Professional:
Thank you for visiting the S.H. Smith & Company, Inc. website. We are extremely proud of our place in the insurance industry and have done our very best to fill this website with useful information to achieve a better understanding of S.H. Smith and how we do our business.
Excess and surplus lines insurance came into necessity as a result of the standard market's unwillingness to assume certain risks. While these were easily defined in the past decades, the lines have since become blurred. We at S.H. Smith endeavor to focus on the areas of insurance where the independent agent needs us. Traditionally, we try not to compete with the standard marketplace. We understand that the independent agent's first allegiance is to its contract carriers, and we operate best when we fulfill needs that the standard markets will not.
At S. H. Smith, we make a number of promises to you, our customer. First and foremost is a promise of superior service. Additionally, we promise to add to your level of expertise so you can surround your insured with the best information and the best policy construction available. Most of us at S.H. Smith have a commercial underwriting background. Combine this with our expertise in a wide range of niche industries and products, and you will have the ammunition to mediate your competition, regardless of the size of agency. Plus, our abilities in market selection for risks and policy construction are key factors to your continued success.
We understand it's difficult to tell one wholesale insurance solution from another. S.H. Smith & Company, Inc. has been in business as presently constituted for over 25 years. We have the finest portfolio of markets and the brightest, most energetic and capable staff in our industry. We can offer you risk solutions that, quite frankly, no one else in our market segment can. We invite you to explore this website and to contact any one of us to discuss any risk for which the insurance marketplace has not yet found the proper solution.
Yours very truly,
Scott H. Smith
