 Scott Smith, President - Connecticut

Scott Smith is the President of S.H. Smith & Company, Inc. Scott acquired the firm in 1982, and under his direction, has grown the company to over $160 million. As one of the largest and most successful excess and surplus lines brokers in the country, S.H. Smith & Company has become known for its unmatched expertise in areas ranging from large umbrellas to products liability to property exposures, with a special focus in the professional liability, directors and officers marketplace.

Prior to creating S.H. Smith & Company, Inc., Scott worked for what was then one of the largest excess and surplus lines brokers in the country, and prior to that was an underwriter at INA, a major property and casualty insurer.

Scott is very involved with professional organizations as well as with numerous charitable, arts and social organizations. He is involved with the IIAA, PIA, NAPSLO, and AAMGA. He sits on the Chubb Producer Advisory Council as well as the Maxum advisory board. He is a past member of the board of the Wadsworth Atheneum, incorporator of the Hartford Art School, and is affiliated with organizations such as the University of Hartford, Saint Francis Hospital and Medical Center, and the Hartford Hospital Group.

 
 Dennis J. Donovan, Executive Vice President - Connecticut

Dennis Donovan is Executive Vice President of S.H. Smith & Company and is in charge of the Professional and Management Liability Department.

Dennis has been with S.H. Smith & Company since 1991, and has been instrumental in making S.H. Smith & Company a market leader in the Directors and Officers Liability marketplace. The company has become noted for the placement of IPO insurance, having worked on and placed some of the largest IPOs of the 1990s. In addition to leading the department, Dennis is also responsible for brokering, marketing, and selling the most sophisticated D&O and E&O risks.

Dennis is a member of PLUS and serves on the Producer Advisory Council for CBER (Chubb/Executive Risk) Insurance Company as well as sits on the Chubb Producer Advisory Council. He has authored numerous articles on EPL and D&O coverage, and is a frequent speaker on professional liability concerns.

Dennis's previous position was Manager of the Financial Institution Department at Chubb Insurance Company. He started his insurance career with The Hartford as a casualty underwriter, and is a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

 
 Stephen Hunziker, Executive Vice President - Minnesota

Steve manages the firm's Minnesota office, which he established in 2001. He brokers directors' and officers' liability and professional liability insurance, with an emphasis on publicly-traded companies, large private companies, professional firms, and financial institutions.

Steve was previously Vice President of Northland Insurance Company, heading the company's Professional Liability Division. Prior to his eight-year tenure with Northland, Steve spent seven years with St Paul Companies, serving as Supervising Underwriter in the Financial and Professional Services Division. Steve began his business career in banking.

An active member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, Steve earned the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation in 1998. He is co-founder and past chairman of PLUS's North Central Chapter, and currently serves nationally on PLUS's RPLU Committee. He is a speaker at industry events and a contributor to industry publications on the topics of directors' and officers' liability and professional liability insurance.

Steve earned a BA in Finance and an MBA from the University of St Thomas.

 
 Edward McGuire, Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing - Pennsylvania

Ed joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007. As Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, he leads a team of sales professionals, continuing to expand the firm in underserved geographic regions, as well as developing and maintaining relationsnships with the firm's largest national broker clients.

Ed was formerly the president/principal of SecureRisk Intermediaries Insurance Agency, Inc., which was acquired by S. H. Smith & Co. Prior to that he was president of NIF Services of Mid-Atlantic, Inc. and the president/principal of Associated Intermediaries. Ed is a graduate of Bryant College.

 
 David L. Kinder, Chief Financial Officer - Connecticut

David has been with S.H. Smith since 1995. He manages the Finance, Information Technology and Operations divisions of the company. David’s background includes managing all aspects of finance, information systems and operations for closely held companies in a variety of industries. Additionally, he was an audit and tax specialist for Coopers and Lybrand, presently known as PricewaterhouseCoopers. His client list included the Travelers Insurance Company.

David has his undergraduate degree in Accounting and Finance from Central Connecticut State University, and a graduate degree from the University of Hartford in Taxation. He is a Certified Public Accountant and a member of the Connecticut Society of CPA’s.

 
 David S. Perkins, Executive Vice President - Massachusetts

Dave Perkins has been with S. H. Smith & Co. since 1994. He is responsible for the Professional and Management Liability Department in the Massachusetts office. He is also responsible for the placement and negotiation of directors & officers liability, professional liability, employment practices liability, media liability, intellectual property liability Insurance and related coverage.

Dave has particular expertise in initial public offerings (IPO's), technology/cyber liability risks, financial institutions, investment advisors, mutual funds, hedge funds and venture capital/private equity funds as well as health care organizations. Prior to joining S.H. Smith, he worked for a wholesale insurance broker specializing in the placement of insurance products for financial institutions.

Dave is a graduate of Gordon College. He has his Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation, and is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriters Society and former steering committee member of the New England Chapter Steering Committee.

 
 Patricia Roth, Executive Vice President - Connecticut

Patti has been with S.H. Smith & Co. since 1994. She is currently Executive Vice President of the Brokerage Department and is involved in the placement of primary product-driven accounts, CGL programs, umbrellas, pollution liability, and some ancillary coverage such as railroad protectives, product recall coverage, and discontinued product liability.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, Patti was a market underwriter for umbrellas at Chubb Custom. She worked in several Chubb offices including New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. She is a graduate of Fairfield University.

 
 John F. Williams, Senior Vice President - Connecticut

John is Senior Vice President for S.H. Smith & Co. John has been at S.H. Smith & Co. since 1982 working in the Brokerage, Professional, Binding Authority, and Marketing Departments. John is presently handling Claims and Internal Underwriting/Brokering Auditing.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith & Co., John worked for a Reinsurance Intermediary and Excess and Surplus Lines Broker in New York City.

John has played a major role in the development of S. H. Smith’s program business and the Lawyers Professional Liability Program.

John is certified in many states to provide CE Credit seminars for Directors and Officers Liability, Employment Practices Liability and Property coverages.

John is a member of the Excess/Surplus Lines Claim Association and > holds Insurance Brokers licenses and Excess and Surplus Broker licenses in various states and is a Licensed Connecticut Insurance Consultant.

 
 Shawn Morris, Broker - Massachusetts

Shawn joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2010. As a member of the Large Commercial, Property and Casualty department, he is responsible for brokering and underwriting commercial accounts.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith Shawn worked as an underwriter for H.T. Bailey Insurance Agency and an assistant underwriter for Acadia Insurance Company. He currently holds a Construction Risk & Insurance Specialist designation from IRMI, a MA P&C license and is pursuing his CPCU. Shawn is a graduate of Southern Maine University.

 Seth Amendola, Assistant Vice President - Connecticut

Seth joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2004 and is currently responsible for marketing and brokerage of middle market and large casualty business including general liability, products liability, umbrella, environmental, worker’s comp, auto liability and foreign liability.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, Seth was an underwriter for Discover Reinsurance in their Specialty Marketing Group responsible for managing and growing a book of group captive business. Prior to Discover Re, he worked at General Reinsurance. Seth is a graduate of Quinnipiac University.

 
 Lori Ault, Senior Vice President - Ohio

Lori joined S.H. Smith & Co. in January 2009 as Vice President, Sales, and will be based out of the firm’s Midwest Regional office in Ohio. Her responsibilities include fostering new agency relationships and servicing the existing agency base. She has extensive knowledge of property/casualty products and excess and surplus lines experience, including a specialization in executive liability products.

Lori has over 25 years of experience in the insurance service industry. Prior to joining S.H. Smith & Co. she served as Vice President for Mercator Risk Services; Sr. Vice President, Executive Liability for Wells Fargo Insurance Services; and Vice President, Sales at Royal & SunAlliance Company.

Lori is a graduate of Ohio University with a BA in Business Administration.

 
 Suzanne Averill, Account Manager - Connecticut

Suzanne joined S. H. Smith & Co. in the Brokerage Department of the Connecticut office in 1999. Her responsibilities include assisting in the placement and servicing of mid and large sized insured programs specializing in product liability, umbrella/excess, as well as environmental liability.

She has over 23 years of experience in the insurance service industry. Prior to joining S. H. Smith, her most recent experience included working as a commercial insurance customer service representative at a large independent retail agency. Suzanne has obtained her CISR designation.

 
 Charles Bellingrath, Account Executive - Connecticut

Charles joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as an assistant underwriter in the Professional Liability Department, assisting in underwriting, rating, quoting and binding miscellaneous errors and omissions coverage. As account executive his responsibilities include assessing the exposures of companies involved in the technology/media industry and those traditional companies managing their information technology exposures. Charles brokers Cyber, Security & Privacy policies including technology errors & omissions, internet liability, media liability, and miscellaneous professional liability. Charles also specializes in placing Seedsmen's professional liability for the professional department.

Charles frequently instructs and attends Privacy Seminars, is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society, and is currently pursuing his RPLU. He is a graduate of Assumption College.

 
 Marci Bitner, Underwriter - Connecticut

Marci joined S.H. Smith in 2006 as an Assistant Underwriter in the Program Department. As underwriter for the Public Automobile Program, Marci is responsible for reviewing potential accounts to determine if the requested criteria meet the program’s guidelines. Marci has had extensive experience in all lines of property and casualty, general liability, commercial auto and D&O insurance. She was honored an associate underwriter of distinction from Mutual of Enumclaw Insurance Company in Washington State. Marci holds her Connecticut Property & Casualty License and is currently pursuing her Bachelor of Arts degree.

 
 Cynthia Bruce, Workers Compensation Underwriter - Connecticut

Cynthia joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2005. As a member of the In-House Underwriting team, she is responsible for marketing and underwriting small business Workers Compensation accounts.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Cynthia served as a Claims Team Leader for Royal & Sun Alliance at their New England Workers Compensation Claim Center. Additionally, she worked as a multi-lines agent for Metropolitan and a Plan Administrator for Transnational Insurance, presently known as Trans National Group.

Cynthia holds both a CPIA Designation and a CT Property & Casualty Producers License. She is a member of the Hartford Association of Insurance Women and is a graduate of the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.

 
 Nancy Casida, Executive Assistant - Connecticut

Nancy joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 1991 and is currently the executive assistant to the president, as well as a licensing coordinator.

At S. H. Smith, her responsibilities include planning corporate meetings and conferences, as well as coordinating all company membership and conference participation. In addition, she handles the corporate licensing nationwide. Nancy is a member of the Securities & Insurance Licensing Association, and has a degree in business administration.

 
 Laurel A. Clain, Underwriter - Massachusetts

Laurel joined S.H. Smith & Co. in November of 2002. Her responsibilities include underwriting binding authority business for new and renewal commercial accounts.

Laurel has over 20 years of insurance experience and has been both a retail and mutual company underwriter. She holds her property and casualty broker's license and is actively pursuing her CPCU designation.

 
 Donna Compositor, Renewal Underwriter - Connecticut

Donna joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2008 as a Technical Assistant in the In-House Underwriting Group and currently holds the position of Renewal Underwriter. Her responsibilities include underwriting binding authority business for renewal commercial accounts, releasing binders and processing inspection reports.

Donna holds a CT P&C license and is pursuing her CISR designation. Donna is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University.

 
 Lauren Coroso, Underwriter - Connecticut

Lauren joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as a Technical Assistant and was promoted to Assistant Underwriter. She is responsible for assisting in the marketing and quoting of new business submissions.

Lauren holds a CT P&C license and will be pursuing her CPCU designation. She is a member of the Young Insurance Professionals of Connecticut and the Hartford Association of Insurance Women. Lauren is a graduate of the University of Connecticut. Storrs.

 
 Terrence G. Coughlin, Regional Vice President, Sales - Ohio

Terry joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 1993. He is currently responsible for marketing S.H. Smith products, programs and expertise throughout Ohio to independent retail agents.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Terry was a Branch Manager of CNA's office in Cincinnati and Cleveland. He also worked as a Personal Lines Manager and Commercial Lines Marketing Manager for Aetna in Cincinnati.

Terry is an MBA graduate of Canisius College and has his Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter designation. He is an associate member of the Cincinnati Insurance Board, a member of the Insurance Board of Northern Ohio, and ARM of Ohio.

 
 Heather Cruikshank, Underwriter - Connecticut

Heather joined S.H. Smith in 2007 as an Assistant Underwriter in the Program Department. In her current position as Underwriter for the Public Automobile Program, Heather is responsible for reviewing potential accounts to determine if the requested criteria meet the program’s guidelines. Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Heather was a broker assistant at an excess and surplus lines broker, and prior to that, a quality analyst at Chubb Specialty Insurance.

 
 Wes Day, Program Manager, Public Auto - Connecticut

Wes joined S.H. Smith in 2010 as the Program Manager of the Public Automobile Program. He is the senior underwriting resource and oversees all staff underwriters and support specialists. Prior to joining S.H. Smith he served as Vice President for Ace Tempest Re where he was responsible for producing, underwriting and servicing large books of business with an emphasis on automobile and general liability coverages. Prior to that he was President of Amicus Re, serving as a liaison between Swett & Crawford and Northland Insurance Company in the sale of Northland Re and establishment of Amicus RE as a Managing General Underwriter, responsible for all aspects of operations in all branch offices. He is a graduate of the University of Hartford with a degree in business administration and has served in the U.S. Army as an OCS, Lieutenant.

 
 Correne G. Dean, Specialty Pro-Account Executive - Connecticut

Correne joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2009 as an Account Executive. She is responsible for the renewal brokering of the Professional & Management Liability product line.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith & Company, Correne was an Agribusiness Underwriter for Safeco Insurance, covering both Private and Commercial Lines of business. She held the position of Account Underwriter for Chubb Specialty Insurance, where she wrote D&O, Employment Practices, Fiduciary, Crime, and Kidnap and Ransom Liability Insurance. She was also a member of the Team Velocity Wholesale New Business department.

 Gretchen Decker, Renewal Underwriter - Connecticut

Gretchen joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as a renewal underwriter in the In-House Underwriting Group. Her responsibilities include underwriting binding authority business for renewal commercial accounts.

Gretchen was previously a commercial lines broker for an insurance agency, and has experience in both customer service and the insurance industry.

 
 Joseph Dvornicky, Regional Sales Manager - Maryland

JD joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2008. HIs responsibilities include marketing S. H. Smith products and programs through the Pennsylvania and mid-Atlantic region.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, JD was an executive, general and professional liability underwriter at the Philadelphia Insurance Companies. His experience includes directors & officers liability, employment practices, fiduciary liability, as well as general and professional liability. JD is a graduate of Saint Joseph's University.

 
 Kathleen Frey, Account Executive - Minnesota

Kathy joined S.H. Smith & Co. in August 2009 as an account executive and is responsible for commercial property and casualty accounts.

Kathy comes to S.H. Smith with over 25 years of industry experience. Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Kathy was an account analyst for a large independent agency working on large multi-line accounts and training new hires and company interns. She previously served as a commercial lines underwriting director for both the The St. Paul Companies and Travelers.

Kathy has been both a board member and an officer of the Professional Insurance Women and currently remains an active member. She carries an Associate in Underwriting designation and is a graduate of the University of Minnesota.

 
 Carol Gazsi, Senior Broker - Connecticut

Carol joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2001 n the Professional and Management Liability Department. Her current job responsibilities include brokering allied and specified medical, D&O, EPL and fiduciary accounts. She also manages the operations of the department.

 April Gilcreast, Assistant Divisional Manager - Massachusetts

April joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as an underwriter in the In-House Underwriting Group and was promoted to Assistant Divisional Manager, In-House Underwriting. In addition to her underwriting job responsibilities, April assists with the management and development of staff, territory assessments and agency and carrier relationships.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, April served as a commercial sales/account analyst, a customer service representative and an underwriting assistant. She is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire.

 
 Blake Hamre, Senior Account Executive - Massachusetts

Blake joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2003. He currently is an account executive in the Professional and Management Liability Department where he is involved in marketing and placement of directors and officers’ liability (non-profit, private and public company), employment practices liability, fiduciary liability, healthcare (D&O/E&O), real estate E&O, insurance agents E&O, lawyers E&O, architects and engineers E&O, and miscellaneous E&O.

Blake has over 18 years of experience in professional liability and D & O underwriting. For 10 years he served as senior underwriter for miscellaneous errors and omissions coverage for a major insurer. Immediately prior to joining S.H. Smith he was senior underwriter at The Hartford.

Blake is a member of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society. He is a graduate of Concordia College as well as from the College of Insurance.

 
 Tina Hartley, Assistant Office Manager - Connecticut

Tina joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2002 and is currently an assistant office manager.

At S. H. Smith, her responsibilities include surplus lines tax filings and policy stamping, surplus lines laws and regulations compliance, as well as agency agreement and update management. She is a member of the Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals organization. She also has her CISR designation.

 
 Alesha Hyatt, Account Manager - Connecticut

Alesha joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007. As an assistant underwriter, she assists in all facets of the firm's Petroleum Program, including initiating the binding process, quoting and setting up accounts.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, she was a commercial lines CSR for a retail insurance agency. She holds her property/casualty license in CT and is currently in the process of obtaining her AAI designation.

 
 Ryan Kelly, Assistant Vice President - Connecticut

Ryan joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2006 as an underwriter in the In-House Underwriting Group and currently holds the position of Assistant Vice President, In-House Underwriting/New Business. He is responsible for agency management as well as educating the marketplace on the expansive underwriting authority and comprehensive product capabilities of S.H. Smith.

Ryan was previously a commercial lines broker for an insurance agency, and is a graduate of Boston University.

 
 Kimberly Latka, Claims Specialist - Connecticut

Kim joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007. As a claims specialist, Kim is responsible for reporting all claims as they are received. She also assists agents with any inquiries regarding claims, and obtains loss runs as well.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, Kim was an inside claims representative for Great American Insurance. She is a graduate of the University of New Haven.

 
 Wendey Lenkiewicz, Assistant Account Manager - Connecticut

Wendey joined S.H. Smith & Co. in April of 2008, in the Program Department. As a Program Support Specialist, Wendey prepares new business accounts for initial set-up. She is also involved with the filings for petroleum accounts and obtaining post binding requirements. She is in the process of learning rating, endorsements and policy issuance.

Prior to coming to S.H. Smith, she was a CSR for a local retail agency and was directly involved with day to day policy operations by pursuing follow up underwriting information, quoting, endorsement processing and general policy maintenance. Wendey holds a CT P&C license.

 
 Jeanine Loomis, Assistant Vice President - Minnesota

Jeanine joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2005. Her responsibilities include brokering management and professional liability policies, including D&O, EPL, Professional and E&O, as well as marketing for the Minnesota office.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, Jeanine was an account executive specializing in marketing and servicing directors & officers, employment practices, professional and fiduciary liability policies.

Jeanine has her Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation and is working toward her Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation. She is currently the chair of the Professional Liability Underwriting Society's North Central Chapter, as well as the current membership committee chair and secretary for the Young Insurance Professionals of Minnesota. Jeanine is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin.

 
 Edward Martindale, Senior Account Executive - Connecticut

Edward joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2004 and is responsible for placing comprehensive property, marine, and DIC coverage on difficult risks. Ed is also responsible for cultivating relationships with these carriers.

Ed has over 15 years of property insurance experience. He has two years of property wholesale experience plus spent six years at Marsh as a property broker. Ed is a graduate of Connecticut College.

 
 Mark Mattson, Regional Sales Manager - Minnesota

Mark joined S. H Smith & Co. in 2007 as Regional Marketing Manager. His responsibilities include marketing S. H. Smith products and programs on behalf of the St Paul, MN office.

Mark was most recently District Marketing Representative for Unitrin Business Insurance. Prior to that he was with Berkley Risk Administrators Company, RJF Agencies, and had held claims and risk management positions at the St. Paul Companies. Mark graduated from Concordia College, and holds an Associate in Claims designation from the Insurance Institute of America.

 
 Michael McIntire, Regional Sales Manager - Massachusetts

Mickey joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2006. His responsibilities include marketing S.H. Smith products and programs throughout Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and Rhode Island.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Mickey's experience included developing and maintaining a book of business for both self-insured and fully-insured programs for a national third-party administrator. He holds a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation and is currently pursuing his Certified Risk Manager (CRM) designation. Mickey is a graduate of Keene State College.

 
 Dana McKinney, Underwriter - Connecticut

Dana joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as a Technical Assistant and was promoted to Assistant Underwriter. She is responsible for underwriting and quoting property and casualty risks for the In-House Underwriting Department.

Dana holds a CT P&C license and will be pursuing her CPCU designation. She is a member of the Young Insurance Professionals of Connecticut and the Hartford Association of Insurance Women. Dana is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University.

 
 Mark J. Mullarkey, RPLU, Senior Vice President - Connecticut

Mark joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 1997. He is responsible for brokering/underwriting various lines of professional liability including miscellaneous errors and omissions, architects and engineers errors and omissions and medical malpractice as well as has management responsibility for a portion of the professional brokering staff.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Mark was a Senior Underwriter and Manager for Executive Risk. His responsibilities included underwriting directors and officers liability, employment practices liability and fiduciary.

Mark has completed the requirements of the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter Program and has received his RPLU designation. He is a former member of the board of directors for the Connecticut Young Insurance Professionals, and is a current member of the PLUS-Hartford chapter steering committee. Mark received his undergraduate degree from Southern Connecticut State University, and his MBA from Iona College, Hagan School of Business

 
 Lyn Nielsen, Underwriter - Minnesota

Lyn joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2006 as a commercial lines underwriter.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Lyn was a professional liability underwriter for St. Paul Travelers. She had also been an underwriter for Gulf Insurance and Northland Insurance. Prior to joining Northland, Lyn had worked for several independent agencies in the St. Paul and Minneapolis area.

 
 Regina Pleckaitis, Assistant Underwriter - Connecticut

Regina joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as an Account Representative in the Professional & Management Liability Department. Recently promoted to Assistant Underwriter, she is responsible for brokering and underwriting miscellaneous professional errors and omissions coverage.

Regina is a member of the Hartford Association of Insurance Women and PLUS. She is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University and holds a CT P&C license.

Robin joined S.H. Smith & Co. in September of 2008 as an account manager in the Programs Department. In her current position as Underwriter, Robin is responsible for rating, underwriting, and quoting tow truck programs.

Before joining S.H. Smith & Company, Robin served as an account executive for a national retail agency in Houston, Texas, where she managed large commercial risks and a retail franchise program. Previously, she was a lead account manager for an ambulance captive at an agency in Connecticut that specialized in Captive Insurance. Robin attended the Harford School of Insurance where she received a Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist (CLCS) designation. She also holds a Property/Casualty License and is currently pursing a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation through the National Alliance for Insurance Research & Education.

 
 James Sheehan, Vice President - Connecticut

Jay joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2005, as a member of the Professional and Management Liability Department. He has considerable expertise in brokering directors and officers liability, employment practices liability, management and professional liability for investment advisors, mutual funds, hedge funds, venture capital and private equity firms. In addition, Jay specializes in the placement and negotiation of representations and warranties insurance, tax liability insurance and contingent liability insurance.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith & Co., Jay served as a Vice President and team leader in Marsh USA Inc.'s Private Equity Mergers and Acquisitions practice. Prior to that, he was a member of Marsh's Commercial Casualty Department.

Jay received his undergraduate degree from Providence College and earned a Juris Doctor degree from Quinnipiac University School of Law.

 
 Justin Sloan, Underwriter - Connecticut

Justin joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2008 as a Technical Assistant in the In-House Underwriting Group and currently holds the position of Underwriter. He is responsible for underwriting and marketing property casualty risks.

Justin holds a CT P&C license and is pursuing his CIC designation. He is a member of the Young Insurance Professionals of Connecticut and the National Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices. Justin is a graduate of Central Connecticut State University.

 
 Hamilton Smith, Vice President - Connecticut

Hamilton joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2006 as an account executive in the Brokerage Department where he assisted with marketing renewals and new business generation. As a Vice President in the Professional Department, he is responsible for brokering and underwriting various lines of miscellaneous professional liability.

Hamilton has completed The Hartford School of Insurance Commercial Lines Coverage Specialist class, and received his CLCS designation. He is a graduate of the University of Hartford as well as from the S. H. Smith internship program.

 
 Matthew Smith, Vice President - Connecticut

Matthew joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2006 as an account representative in the Professional and Management Liability Department. His current responsibilities are within the areas of directors & officers liability insurance as well as errors & omission coverage.

His previous experience includes brokering errors and omissions insurance at Health Lambert Brokers UK. Matthew is a graduate of the University of Hartford, has participated in several carrier training programs, and is also a graduate of the S. H. Smith's internship program.

 
 Patrick Smith, Professional Liability Advisor - Connecticut

Patrick joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2008 as senior account representative in the Professional and Management Liability Department and currently serves as Professional Liability Advisor. As a senior account representative,his responsibilities included brokering all professional liability lines, with a special emphasis on directors & officers liability insurance as well as errors & omission coverage.

His previous experience includes a position as a senior executive protection underwriter at Chubb Specialty, where he was a specialist in directors & officers liability coverage.

Patrick is a graduate of Trinity College, and is a member of PLUS.

 
 Kristen St. Pierre, Office Manager - Connecticut

Kristen joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 1998 and is currently the Office Manager. She is responsible for managing and supervising the firm's administrative staff in the Hartford office, as well as the firm's Boston office.

Her position includes all facets of human resources management, including recruitment and staffing and benefit administration.

 
 Kim Twerdy, Account Manager - Connecticut

Kim joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 2007 as an Account Manager in the Brokerage Department. Her responsibilities include assisting in the marketing and placement of mid and large sized insured programs, specializing in property, product liability and umbrella/excess coverages.

Prior to joining S. H. Smith, Kim was an Assistant Vice President in the Global Property Department at Marsh, Inc., and most recently at a large retail agency specializing in property and casualty placements in the commercial insurance division.

Kim is a graduate of Manchester Community College. She also holds a Connecticut Producers License and is ACSR designated.

 
 Katrina Washington, Underwriter - Massachusetts

Katrina joined S.H. Smith in 2006 as office assistant. She was promoted to assistant underwriter in 2008, where she assisted in the marketing, quoting and binding of business for both new and renewal accounts. In her current position of Renewal Underwriter, she is responsible for the renewal of commercial accounts in the In-House Underwriting Department.

Katrina holds a MA P&C license and is pursuing her CISR designation.

 
 Darren White, Program Support Specialist - Connecticut

Darren joined S.H. Smith & Co. in October of 2008 as a Program Support Specialist in the Programs Department. Darren is responsible for new business input, file maintenance, endorsements, PG fees, account issuance, and missing information follow-ups. He is a graduate of Assumption College with a B.A. degree in Mathematics.

 
 John Wilson, Assistant Underwriter - Connecticut

John joined S.H. Smith in 2008 as an Assistant Underwriter in the Program Department. John is responsible for entering, rating, and obtaining quotes for all new business, renewals, and endorsements, as well as processing the required sate filings.

John holds a Connecticut Property & Casualty license and is a graduate of Western Connecticut State University with a B.S. in Management Information Systems.

 
 James Wyne, Chief Underwriting Officer - Connecticut

James joined S.H. Smith & Co. in February 2009 as Program Manager, Auto Transporters Program and currently holds the position of Chief Underwriting Officer in the In-House Underwriting department. His responsibilities include insuring that underwriting standards of S.H. Smith & carrier partners are strictly adhered to, providing for educational opportunities for the In-House underwriting team and working with carrier-partners to develop and maintain viable and competitive products for agent customers. Before joining S.H. Smith & Company, he served as Director of Production at a Peoria, IL based specialty insurance company, where he was responsible for Construction General Liability product development. Prior to that position he served as Sr. Vice President of The Hartford Insurance Group, National Account Practice.

James currently serves on the Board of Trustees of Mercy Community. He is a graduate of the University of Colorado at Boulder.

 
 Kendra M. Young, Administrative Staff Manager - Connecticut

Kendra joined S. H. Smith & Co. in 1995. She is a member of our In-House Underwriting team where she is a manager to the underwriting assistants.

Her previous experience includes policy issuance, as well as working on affidavits and binders. She is currently working on her CISR designation.

 
 Shawn Young, Vice President, Program Management - Connecticut

Shawn joined S.H. Smith & Co. in September 2009 and is based out of the firm’s office in New Jersey. Shawn’s primary responsibilities include developing the firm’s agency relationships around the country with focused efforts in the metro New Jersey area as well as Eastern Pennsylvania. He serves as the transportation and large casualty placement resource and shares oversight in the department’s petroleum book of business.

Prior to joining S.H. Smith, Shawn was a Senior Vice President for the NIP Group, where he was responsible for building a successful retail transportation practice. He has served in senior positions developing and managing transportation programs at both a large specialty brokerage firm and a leading transportation broker. His experience also includes placing complex real estate accounts across the country.

Shawn is currently pursuing his Certified Risk Manager designation. He earned his Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designation in 1993 and has been an active member of The National Alliance for over 15 years.

Jennifer joined S. H. Smith & Co., in 2002 as a personal lines underwriter. Her responsibilities include brokering personal lines accounts within our In-House Underwriting group.

 
 Rob Zimmerman, Underwriter - Connecticut

Rob joined S.H. Smith & Co. in 2005 and is currently an underwriter in the Programs Department. His responsibilities include underwriting the firm's primary and exclusive umbrella liability Petroleum Products Program.

Rob holds Insurance licenses for Property/Casualty and Surplus lines in various states and has received his Certified Professional Insurance Agent (CPIA) designation. He is a graduate of Manchester Community College.
